Kudos to the team of geeks from XDA-developers.com, especially to phil, duke_stik, challhsu, andot and their anonymous source who provided them the internal build of Windows Mobile 6.
So the story started this way, my phone is Dopod 577w, manufacturered by HTC (High Tech Corp) running Windows Mobile 5 as an operating system. But now, there is a new operating system which is Windows Mobile 6, it is like comparing Windows XP to Windows Vista. However, unlike normal computer where you can just install the operating system, for smartphones and PDA, the upgrades are device specific. I was dying to get a Windows Mobile 6 device because of the additional functions it offers, till few months back when someone found out that my phone was actually used to test Windows Mobile 6 (internal build), and someone obtained the operating system.
Then the geeks at xda-developers started to develop and 'cook' the ROM ( cook is a term used to describe making a custom ROM ).
So few weeks back, one of the xda-devs released a BETA build of the ROM, and I flashed it to my device, voiding my warranty.
So here are some screenies
Windows Mobile 5 (before) on the left and Windows Mobile 6 (after!!!) on the right
There are so many added functions. As you can see from the homescreens, it looks better, it even supports SIP for VoIP which means that I can make Internet calls using WiFi or 3G using my VoipStunt account. Then there is Windows Live Messenger which is almost the same as the desktop client ( see screenshots )
For Dopod 577w (HTC Tornado) owner that might be reading this, I will be cooking my own ROM which includes some better applications by the end of this year, well, if you can wait. I will also post up a step by step pictorial guide to flashing your phone.
