I have always wanted to get a PDA, after playing with Dopod 577w, I wanted to get Dopod 838 Pro but when I heard that HTC TyTn II will be released, I thought, why not I wait till HTC TyTn II to be released and then consider both the PDA.
Eventually HTC TyTn II was released and I thought, why not wait for months for the price to drop, and then HTC announced the launch of HTC Touch Pro. I told myself that this will be great because the price of HTC Touch Pro would have dropped then.
Subsequently HTC Touch Pro was released but it's too expensive at a price of RM3200. That would mean draining my entire savings back then. So I waited and waited, till when my Dopod 577w began breaking down, the buttons broke apart due to wear & tear, the battery began bloating to the extend it could explode anytime. The battery could not even last 6 hours on a full charge. The camera began to screw up and it's really time to get a new phone.
I began to ask the price of HTC Touch Pro but at the same time I was told HTC Touch Pro 2 would be released by June. But I told myself I would not wait anymore and instead get a HTC Touch Pro once and for all.
This is the 4 generations of HTC PDA that have held my purchase of a new PDA for years.
That was till I went to Lowyat and asked if my current Dopod 577w can be repaired. The shop so happened to have a very new Dopod 577w, albeit used, it's in top notch condition. A new battery itself would have cost RM170 but I managed to negotiate for RM250 to trade in my old phone to a newer phone, despite being the same model.
I am very impressed with the quality of the phone, even the chrome on the joystick which would be the first thing to wear off within weeks is still intact. Perhaps the previous owner never know how to use the phone, and ya, the phone function is overwhelmed for a new user . And so here is the new phone.
You should have seen the old phone, the left softkey was broken, exposing the internal keypad, there's scratches everywhere, the back case has cracked due to the bloating battery, and the camera did not work anymore.
The first charge took 5-6 hours, probably because the battery is just so new. It was still running the stock ROM of Windows Mobile 5, and then I flashed it to Windows Mobile 6 using my very own guide which I have written for 30,000+ other HTC Tornado users out there. I simply forgotten the proper procedure to do it.
