Well, I have just finsihed installing a CGI script on my server. It's a web-based proxy server for anonymous HTTP and FTP web browsing. So what can you do with it?

 

You get to browse the web anonymously using my server resource. This is how it works. When you try to view a page, let's say www.google.com. My server will fetch the page and then transmit it to you, it acts like a middle man. So the website that you browse would identify my server as the visitor instead of you, it's like an agent.

 

Another advantage is, let's say you are loading a website very slow, you can use the proxy server to fetch the site at a fast speed and then transmit to you at a faster speed, which is faster compared by loading it yourself.

 

If your house, college, office or anywhere else has a firewall that blocks you from viewing certain site, you can again access it via this proxy server. 

 

Lastly, if there are certain sites that you could not access because your country blocks it or it's not allowed to be viewed by users outsite United States, you can use the proxy server to view those sites. (Because the server is hosted at United States, hence it will be identified as a visitor from United States)

Censorship is a controversial subject, and some governments and companies have rules about what information you should have access to. If you use my software to bypass rules that have been imposed on you, you assume all legal risks and responsibilities involved.  I'm providing the software as a demonstration and teaching tool, and for when legitimate access is needed to non-accessible servers.  I won't encourage you to break any rules, because I would get in trouble if I did.  I can't prevent you from using this software in illegitimate ways, but I believe the value of it as a teaching tool is far too great to let a few miscreants ruin it for everybody.

 

Please use the proxy for good purpose, remember that anonymity is not bullet proof, you shall be responsible for whatever you do. If you are prevented from viewing certain websites, there are reasons behind it. Also, please do not abuse this proxy server, if I find that it is too straining on the server, I would have to restrict the access to myself only.
