This is a guide to upgrade HTC Feeler/Typhoon/Amadeus to Windows Mobile 6 all the way from Windows Mobile 2003 or upgrade from Windows Mobile 5
HTC Feeler is also known as Dopod 575, I-mate SP3i, O2 Xphone II, Qtek 8020, Vodafone VD
HTC Typhoon is also known as Audiovox SMT5600, Dopod 565, i-mate SP3, Krome Intellekt iQ700, Orange SPV C500 and Qtek 8010
HTC Amadeus is also known as O2 Xphone IIm, T-Mobile SDA Music, Dopod 585
The process of upgrading these phones are almost the same. Just some differences somewhere. Let's start but before I begin, I would like to stress that these ROMS are not an official release from HTC or their OEM/ODM partners. It is cooked by ROM developers from XDA-developers . Thanks to Andot and all others who had made this a reality. Right now, the ROM is being improved from time to time, so I will update this page from time to time too. For latest update, you can check out the XDA-developers website. This page is merely as a guide. You will also void your warranty by flashing unofficial ROMS (I doubt if your warranty is still valid). Also remmember to have your battery charged to at least 50 percent. I am also not responsible for anything that happens as a result for following my guide.
As I am using O2 Xphone II aka HTC Feeler, I would be using the phone to explain the upgrading procedure.
So, let's begin flashing. Remmember that you will lose all your important datas such as your contacts and SMS, you can backup your SMS using JeyoMobileExtender , it is a trial software, but enough for you to backup and transfer it back to your phone. The entire process must be done on a Windows XP system. Ensure you are using Microsoft Active Sync 4.5 or later. Connect your device via USB. If you are using Windows Vista, you do not need to install Active Sync, instead your PC comes with Windows Mobile Device Centre.
Basically, the process of flashing is divided into 10 steps.
Step 1 - Preparation - Download all the necessary files
Step 2 - Application Unlock
Step 3 - SuperCID - cert.cab
Step 4 - SuperCID - changing the CID
Step 5 - Patch ROM Upgrade Utility (not required for those who had flashed ronswens WM5 ROM)
Step 6 - Disable USB connection
Step 7 - Access the bootloader
Step 8 - Extract the ROM and run mtty.exe
Step 9 - Flashing
Step 10 - Setting the camera driver and installing essential apps
Step 1 - Download all the necessary files. Choose your desired ROM, there are 2 ROMS for Typhoon, one comes with ClearType, one does not. With ClearType, the font looks better but Chinese font looks abit awful. So unless you want to read Chinese, download the ROM with ClearType. The same applies to Feeler and Amadeus. Download the Extras folder as well
For more useful softwares, have a read here on all the softwares personally used and tested by me, working perfeclty on my phone.
*Update June 18 2008 - WM6.1 for Typhoon/Feeler/Amadeus beta ROM from XDA-developers
Download link - http://rapidshare.com/files/109532040/WM6.1_pre_v.1.3.exe
Support forum - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=374893
These files are obtained from this website, as I do not want to leech Andot's bandwidth, I uploaded it to Rapidshare. There might be new versions in the future so I will update the links from time to time.
Step 2 - Ensure that your device is application unlocked, if you are unsure whether it is application unlocked or not, it does not harm to unlock it once again. Download SDA_ApplicationUnlock.zip. Then execute the exe file in it. You should see something like this. The purpose of running this application is to ensure that you can install any unsigned 3rd party application (which is the tool needed to SuperCID in the next step) . If your device is already application unlock, you can skip this step.
Step 3 - If your device is SuperCID, you can skip this step and proceed to Step 4, if you have no idea what is SuperCID, chances are your device are not. First, download SPV-Services which is the software you need to use to SuperCID. Extract it to a folder, let's say on a desktop. You will see three files in it. Cert.cab , TyphoonNBFTools.dll and SPV-services.exe. Copy cert.cab to any location on your smartphone and install it.
Step 4 - Now run SPVServices.exe which was extracted in Step 3, you should see this. RAPI Init was successful means that your ROM is ready to be patched with 16 bytes of data to allow it to be flashed with any ROM, by clicking on Set CID, your warranty is void. *(If you cannot access spv-developers website or get Error 404, please refer to the bottom of this post)
Step 5 - (If you have installed Ronswens WM5, you can skip this step) Now reboot your phone, once you have rebooted, download the new SPL, extract it and run Patched_RUU . Firstly, check the box ' I have understand...' and click Next. Then tick the checkbox after following the 4 step and click Next. Lastly, it will verify the information on your smartphone and then prompt you with another window, click Update and then click next. It will start flashing the SPL to your phone, you will see the progress bar on both your screen and phone. DO NOT DISCONNECT THE PHONE or do anything funny at this period eventhough it might seem to have stalled at certain percentage !
Once you are done, your phone will reboot, then turn it off.
Step 6 - Remove the USB cable, and disable Active Sync USB connection. Open Microsoft Active Sync, click File -> Connection Settings -> Untick allow USB connection
So now that you got your device turned off, remove the USB cable.
Step 7 - Now you need to access the bootloader. Ensure that the phone is turned off, hold the camera button with a hand, and connect the USB cable, after a second, you will see a white screen asking 'Need an IU? ", press 0 and you will see a 3 colour screen which is the bootloade. If you do not see Typhoon, do not proceed!
Step 8 - Now extract the ROM which you have downloaded earlier on to your C: drive, then execute mtty.exe. Select USB from the drop down menu and click OK.
Step 9 - Now copy os.bin into your C drive and then type 'l c:/os.bin' without the quotes and type enter, you will see a series of process. The entire process takes around 10-20 minutes. Please be patient. Once it is done, type ResetDevice, and you have WM6. Remember to type the command, don't copy paste
Step 10 - Now you need to choose which camera driver you are using depending on what camera your phone uses. If its 0.3MP, then choose 0.3 and the same applies to 1.3MP. To set the camera driver, hit Start -> Settings -> More -> More -> Camera driver. Choose and click done. Then extract the Extras folder which you have downloaded earlier and install the apps which you need.
1) Celetask is a better task manager which can be accessed by holding the Home button after it is installed
2) WM5Storage now works on WM6, the USB driver has been replaced
3) Install the approriate camera software, or your phone might just hang
4) HTC Album is extracted from Windows Mobile 2003, just incase you want the classic akbum
The last thing you need to do is enable back USB connection which is the reverse of Step 6.
If you need any assistance, please proceed to xda-developers forum where this ROM is discussed . Now you can install some application from the Extras folder. You can also install T9 English and T9 Chinese

* If you cannot use SPV-Developers SuperCID tools, download this tool and use the alternative method. Then do the following.
- Keep your Tornado connected to ActiveSync.
- Extract it with WinRAR etc. - Open the Lokiwiz.exe - When you opend the Lokiwiz.exe you will get a black DOS screen with 4 options: U. Unlock L. Lock C. Cid Unlock (SuperCID) Q. Quit
