Beginning this friday, the competition between telecommunication provider will become greater when Mobile Number Portability is finally completed (it was supposed to be completed years ago). With Mobile Number Portability (MNP), you can switch to other network without changing your number, you can keep your existing number (most of the time, nice numbers) and jump ship. What does this means? This means that you are no longer bonded to a network once you are commited. If one of them provide you a terrible service, just go to any of the telco centres and request for a change.

To prevent users from changing as they like, a charge of RM25 is imposed on each time you change network. On top of that, your existing balance would be forfeited, so forget about carrying all your birthday bonus to another network.

According to Lowyat.Net , it will be launched in October, but starting this Friday (tommorow), you can begin the transition as the telcos get ready for the main launch. Be among the first few to jump ship as only 100 applicants will be proceesed by each telcos everyday prior to the launching.

I still remembered I was posting about MNP way back in September 2007, and back then I was saying that it would be launched 'soon'. Well guess the 'soon' will be in another two months time.

So consumers, let us just sit down and watch more freebies thrown in to us by the major telcos in Malaysia.

In the future, you will no longer know what network your friends are as 012 and 017 could as well be subscribers of Celcom or Digi and vice versa.
