Chronology

1) Preliminary round at WCG Lowyat

2) Selected for finals - top 10

3) Practice

4) Selected for finals - top 6

And this post - managed to get 4th place only

After all the practice, I went to WCG today to compete with 5 others for the grand prize of the computer. After being briefed by the organizer, it's time to clock a fast lap. As my time was the highest among the 5 others, I was selected to clock my time first, which was a huge disadvantage for me.

I was very cautious on my warm up lap, however, I still spun off during turn 3. I became too cautious of the traction control that I actually jeopardize my race time. I was going too slow on the corners and the semi-malfunction steering was definitely making things worse.

In the end, I managed to clock a terrible 1:41. Then it was time for the next person to clock his time, his warm up lap was great, when he reached the last corner, he cut the corner widely giving him around 4-5 seconds of advantage over the 2 laps. All other players did the same by cutting the corner. The best time was 1:31, ten seconds better than mine.

After all the players have raced, the winner was determined and I got fourth placing. However, I knew I could do better so I requested for another unofficial try, just to see how fast I could have gone, this time I raced very aggresively, riding over the curbs on each corners, and when I crossed the finish line, it was 1:30. That was a huge blow to me, I could have done better but because I was nervous, I ruined my chance of winning the grand prize.

Here you go, the top 6 of the WCG Intel Simulator challenge.

So, in case you guys are wondering, what's in the bag? Well, nothing more than an Intel t-shirt, Intel screw driver + torch (the same one I got yesterday), and an Intel cap.

Well, since I really can't accept the defeat this time, guess I'll have to say some postive things to make myself feel better, let's see:-

1) At least I was kept occupied enough to practice everyday instead of worrying for my CAT examination results tomorow
2) At least I got to know few other people today
3) If I had won the computer, I would have to buy another monitor as it did not come with one, and it's not any better than my gaming computer, so 'luckily' I did not win it. Tongue out (I believe the computer is worth around RM1800)

Overall, my experience at WCG for the past 2 days have been great, the Samsung booth host was very entertaining. Walking in to the gaming hall, you can see people who come from all backgrounds, old or young, some even go that extra length to bring their own gaming accesories such as gaming keyboard, mouse, even gaming mousepad to ensure they gain the slightest advantage over their opponents. I'm definitely looking forward to the next WCG 2009.
