Last Saturday, I was invited by Nuffnang to join an exclusive launching party for the Blackberry Curve 8520. The party started at 8pm at The Republic in Sunway Pyramid so I thought it would be just perfect to head there right after the Canon Photomarathon in the morning till evening. But things didn't seem to be in favour of me on that day. Read on to find out.
The tickets to the Xberry party came in a pair, so I needed to find some friend to accompany me there, else it would have been very awkward and lonely. So with the additional free ticket in hand, I invited Michelle to the party since she would be at the Canon Photomarathon event as well, so it shouldn't be a problem to head to Sunway Pyramid right after that.
But I was wrong, right after the tiring Canon Photomarathon event, Michelle felt exhausted and had to abandon the whole idea of accompanying me to the Xberry party. So in a last minute attempt, I called some of my friends but none could make it in time for the party.
Feeling dejected, I walked to Sunway Pyramid all by myself. I reached Republic quite early, signed up at Nuffnang booth and got my wrist-band-ticket. I wanted to ffk but I have already RSVP and it would not be nice to ffk as Nuffnang would probably not invite me to any of their future events if I were to do so.
Headed into the VVIP area and there were really very few people. Being alone, I sat on a small round table and started ordering Tiger beer provided by the house.

Even though I was alone, it didn't deter me from keeping myself company. I started to mix around with other invited Xberry VVIP including some from the press. Since we were attending the launching party of Blackberry Curve 8520, we had a long chat on Blackberry phones while gulping down those beer. I managed to catch up with another Nuffnang blogger, Tim who have attended the Canon Photomarathon as well. We instantly recognized each other from the Canon T-shirt we were wearing.
Here's how the bar looks like, basically we could order almost every drinks there as they were provided free by the house.
Launching party begins, Arabyrd and others posing with their Blackberry
This is when my camera battery died, I brought 4 AA batteries to the Canon Photomarathon event and being a 'marathon' event, I snapped a lot of pictures and that have drained all the juice out of the batteries. So no more pictures from the event now onwards.
Basically for the rest of the event, we were entertained with performances by beatboxer Shawn Lee, DJ Lapsap, Joe Flizzow and Twilight Action Girl.
As for me, it's a shame for me to collapse midway during the event when all the performances was going on owing to the tiring morning I had at the Canon Photomarathon and the outing to Lookout point I had the night before, and so I heard there were lucky draws and God knows if I have missed any chances of bringing home Blackberry Curve 8520.
Part 2 - Why would I want a Blackberry Curve 8520 ?
The answer is simple, because my own phone dropped into the pool at Sunway Lagoon hours before the Xberry launching!!!
This was Michelle and I before walking down the suspension bridge in Sunway Lagoon. The bridge was swaying quite a lot. As we were walking towards the middle of the bridge, that was the point when the bridge swayed the most.
Suddenly, I heard that familiar tone indicating that I have an incoming message, popped my phone out, and the bridge swayed again. This time I lost grip of my phone (it slipped from the pouch) and it fell right into the pool of Sunway Lagoon, there goes my beloved Dopod 577w. Whoever who sent me that text message, curse you .
That was sort of the re-enactment.
Splash - phone would have dropped to the pool just like that.
So as the result of that, I'm back to using my Nokia 3310
This Nokia 3310 doesn't allow me to surf the web, blog, twit & twat, and surf Facebook. But worry not because Blackberry Curve 8520 can do exactly those plus many more !

Measuring at 109mm x 60mm x 13.9mm, it packs a plethora of features ranging from Wi-Fi to superb software capabilities. The best part of all, this device have a staggering standby time of SEVENTEEN (17) days! Now my previous phone could barely last a day and I'm obliged to carry a USB data transfer cable to charge it on the go.
During the event, I have tried to twit on some of the Blackberry Curve 8520 available on the booths and I'm really amazed how easy it was to use. The phone was so user friendly, I'm already tweeting less than a minute using the phone. The interface was properly designed, a true business class experience.

The phone features a unique touchpad, replacing the more traditional trackball, the touchpad is definitely easier to use compared to the trackball as I have just played with Weng Hoe's older Blackberry hours before. As for the keyboard, it's definitely the best full sized QWERTY keyboard, I have tried those of Nokia E series and Dopod ones and they could not match the tactile feeling on the 35 keyboard buttons.
This phone is awesome because it can be loaded with tons of applications, ranging from Flickr to Instant Messaging applications (Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, etc), but most importantly Facebook ! On top of that, blogging applications are already available, for those using Wordpress, there's Blackberry application to just do that, and as for me using Joomla to blog, I could use the web browser to blog.
I won't go into the technical specifications of the phone, you can check that here.
Considering how good this phone is and the affordability of it, I would definitely start saving for this phone already. Being a tech-savvy person who spends half the day on the Internet, getting this phone requires no second thought!
Part 3 : Blackberry promotion from Xpak
Worry not if you if you have missed the chance to buy Blackberry at RM888, Xpak is extending the promotion but at a price of RM998, still very worth it considering the SRP of the phone at RM1188, still the cheapest Blackberry in the market.
Like I have mentioned above, Blackberry is a superb device allowing connectivity to a lot of applications. Hey, I just mentioned connectivity but as we all know connectivity comes at a premium via GPRS/EDGE/3G.
Xpak is having this promotion, for only a mere Ringgit a day, you remain connected !

If only I still have my old phone, I would have considered changing to Xpak to enjoy unlimited access to applications mentioned above. With Facebook, Flickr and Messenger fast becoming a fad, time to get connected !
Remember that only Celcom users can link their Facebook account to their mobile number

Get Blackberry with Xpak now!
Thanks to Nuffnang for inviting me to the event.
