Finally the exam has ended. While others seems to be glad that it has ended, I am still whining over those careless mistakes that I made in the exam, it's funny how I made those mistakes under exam conditions while I know very well how to answer the questions any other time. I do not mind if I get some questions wrong because I did not know how to answer them but in my case, I knew those questions very well and yet I got them wrong. Somehow, I still couldn't get over them.

To be prudent, I already identified a certain 10 marks to be forfeited from my F7 (Financial Reporting) and F9 ( Financial Management paper).

Here is what I have to say about the 3 subjects I took in the last 6 months.

F7 - Financial Reporting - Ms Shanta

We always joked about how she 'earn commissions' as a lecturer and had a great laugh over it. When she complain of a problem, I would always respond by saying "Your Problem!". She also taught us how to avoid those 'fundamental errors'. Anyhow, F7 is really a tough subject because of the accounting standards that we have to study but in the end, once we understand the standards and the fundamental double entries, the paper would be an easy one. In regards to the exam, this would be the hardest paper of all 3 subjects I took last semester.

F8 - Audit and Assurance - Ms Kiran

This paper was taught by Ms Kiran. During the first few classes, I couldn't help but doze off right despite me sitting right infront of her. We had lots of scoldings from her but in the end, its all for our own benefit. Audit was our first paper, and I guessed audit paper would be the one that gives the highest mark among the 3 papers I took last semester.

F9 - Financial Management - Ms Geetha

I took a brave decision to attempt 4 ACCA papers instead of the normal 3 papers earlier this year. F9 was the additional paper which I took back then. However, I chicken-ed out 2 weeks into the semester and dropped the paper as law and tax was giving me some nightmares. This semester, I took F9 again, following the normal ACCA route. During F9 class, we not only learn about Finance but brushed up our general knowledge as well as Ms Geetha always pops in some random quiz in the midst of her class, it was enjoyable though. I underestimated this paper and did badly in my progress tests, that was when the wake up call came and I really worked very hard to brush up my knowledge. Got to thank Ms Geetha for those 1 to 1 'revision class' during the revision month where I managed to clear most of my doubts.

The past 6 months has flowed real fast, it seems like it was just yesterday when classes first started.

To wrap it up, the December 2009 sittings was filled with surprises. There were some farce during the exam where one candidate sat for the wrong exam (F3 instead of T3) and was given the right questions paper 30 mins into the exam. This reminds me of another blunder in the previous year where a student reached the wrong exam centre and knew about it when the exam started. There is also another case where my friend sat for the wrong variant !

I think I did the same mistake as you in the EPS question. Ishh!!
  • karhoe
Haha, I screwed up the EPS !!! Confirm 5 marks gone already, damn wasteful
  • chris  - are you studying at sunway?
i just finished my A level in science subjects. i am interested in acca. however i do not know if i should study at sunway. i thought of studying there but after reading some post at the lowyatt forum i felt kinda scared coz they say sunway is really bad. is it true? can you shed some lights into this matter. did you study full time at sunway? or do you go for tuition in KL? Is sunway a good place to study? i have to start from F1
  • karhoe
I have been participating in Lowyat Forum as well and no one have mentioned that Sunway is bad. They just claim that there's more experienced lecturer in KL.

Majority of those participating in the forums are actually student from KL colleges as well, so they could only say that their lecturers are good but in the end, it's how hardworking the students are that determine if you can be successful in the exam

I can only say that you shouldn't worry about studying in Sunday because it has a Platinum status from ACCA which means it has a proven track record.

The major difference of studying in Sunway vs KL colleges is Sunway provide a more conducive study environment and more studying hours and a proper college life, etc at a more exp price whereas in KL, it's just like those SPM tuition centres
  • chris  - is LAN compulsary at sunway?
Do i need to study LAN if i take F1 to F3?i have studied A level b4 this but i never take LAN subjects.
  • karhoe
    yeap
  • chris
do i need to attend them? are there any time wasting projects that i need to do?
  • karhoe
well, you 'pandai pandai' la, you can try skipping some class, no one cares, as long as you pass the exam and your project which is fairly simple
  • chris  - not doing LAN
what will happen if i choose not to do LAN?

can i register for the ACCA exam as a private student so Sunway won't bar me from exam or take away my cert.

will i be able to avoid LAN entirely id i do this?
  • karhoe
I have no idea, I have a friend who skipped one of his LAN papers, and so far nothing seems to have happened to him.

It's really your prerogative. My opinion, you should take up LAN, because it's fun, you get to do presentation, something which you NEVER get to do in ACCA.

Do you really want to spend your entire ACCA life studying only?

Hi, I would like to ask you something, did you do audit paper for CAT? Would you advice someone who doesnt has audit background to join Kiran's class? cause i heard its hard to catch up without any audit background.
  • karhoe
I did my audit paper for CAT. Without audit background, Kiran has a separate class for those without audit background in CAT, obviously she will slow down her pace in those classes.
