| Right after the last paper, I went home and wasted no time in running some errands which have been postponed due to my studies. The first thing I did was to buy a new harddisk as my current 160GB harddisk has been filled to its brim! I had only up to 200MB left on my C drive with Windows giving a 'very low' hardisk warning level.
After some research and consultation, I decided to go for Samsung F3 1TB harddisk. It seems like this hardidsk performs better than its Western Digital counterpart, the Black Caviar. Upon reaching home from Lowyat Plaza, I did not fix it into my PC straight away. Instead I took apart my entire computer, down to its individual components and cleaned every inch of dusts! Even the processor was not spared as I reapplied the thermal paste.

My new Samseng Samsung F3 1TB hardisk.

The interior of my PC after dusting off every parts, notice the reflection of the heatsink on the top of the graphics card?
If you remember, a few months back, I wrote a guide on washing the keyboard. I did the same thing days ago, stripping each keys off its housing and scrubbing them with detergants.

Right after that, I popped in my Windows 7 Ultimate disc and give my PC a fresh new OS. Now my PC is much faster.
Well, apart from that, I have began working on my OBU thesis. My mentor seems to be pushing us very hard to score in our thesis. While others are enjoying their holidays and Christmas, here I am, struggling on my 4500-words-long thesis.

| Finally the exam has ended. While others seems to be glad that it has ended, I am still whining over those careless mistakes that I made in the exam, it's funny how I made those mistakes under exam conditions while I know very well how to answer the questions any other time. I do not mind if I get some questions wrong because I did not know how to answer them but in my case, I knew those questions very well and yet I got them wrong. Somehow, I still couldn't get over them.
To be prudent, I already identified a certain 10 marks to be forfeited from my F7 (Financial Reporting) and F9 ( Financial Management paper).
Here is what I have to say about the 3 subjects I took in the last 6 months.
F7 - Financial Reporting - Ms Shanta

We always joked about how she 'earn commissions' as a lecturer and had a great laugh over it. When she complain of a problem, I would always respond by saying "Your Problem!". She also taught us how to avoid those 'fundamental errors'. Anyhow, F7 is really a tough subject because of the accounting standards that we have to study but in the end, once we understand the standards and the fundamental double entries, the paper would be an easy one. In regards to the exam, this would be the hardest paper of all 3 subjects I took last semester.
F8 - Audit and Assurance - Ms Kiran

This paper was taught by Ms Kiran. During the first few classes, I couldn't help but doze off right despite me sitting right infront of her. We had lots of scoldings from her but in the end, its all for our own benefit. Audit was our first paper, and I guessed audit paper would be the one that gives the highest mark among the 3 papers I took last semester.
F9 - Financial Management - Ms Geetha

I took a brave decision to attempt 4 ACCA papers instead of the normal 3 papers earlier this year. F9 was the additional paper which I took back then. However, I chicken-ed out 2 weeks into the semester and dropped the paper as law and tax was giving me some nightmares. This semester, I took F9 again, following the normal ACCA route. During F9 class, we not only learn about Finance but brushed up our general knowledge as well as Ms Geetha always pops in some random quiz in the midst of her class, it was enjoyable though. I underestimated this paper and did badly in my progress tests, that was when the wake up call came and I really worked very hard to brush up my knowledge. Got to thank Ms Geetha for those 1 to 1 'revision class' during the revision month where I managed to clear most of my doubts.
The past 6 months has flowed real fast, it seems like it was just yesterday when classes first started.
To wrap it up, the December 2009 sittings was filled with surprises. There were some farce during the exam where one candidate sat for the wrong exam (F3 instead of T3) and was given the right questions paper 30 mins into the exam. This reminds me of another blunder in the previous year where a student reached the wrong exam centre and knew about it when the exam started. There is also another case where my friend sat for the wrong variant !

| I bet most of us have used or are currently using Casio calculators. Back in secondary school, I have been using the super reliable Casio FX570MS. I bought it from Popular using the voucher I got from my primary school back then. Bought the calculator in Form 1 but kept it as it was not required till I was in Form 2. Since then, the calculator has been subjected to countless calculations, not to mention the physical abuse from the constant dropping and punching of the keypads.

File picture - My precious FX570MS calculator.
Despite all those, this humble calculator have been with me for the past 6 years, going through PMR, SPM, CAT, and my current ACCA examinations. Even the battery has lasted 5 years, and the battery died just after my CAT exam last year. Changed the battery and this time, it died again, but just a week before my ACCA finals. What a blessing in disguise.
Anyway, my point in this post is, FX570MS has always been in the grey area between 'programmable' and 'non-programmable' calculators. According to SPM examination guidelines, students are not allowed to bring in 'programmable' calculators. Some teachers say that using FX-570MS is fine as it really cannot be programmed!
The FX-570ES was even more controversial as it allows log function questions to be solved even easier than before!
However, another school of thought says that though this calculator is not programmable, it should be banned because of its abiliity to solve matrix equations and simple quadratic and integration functions!

| Most of the time, when you turn on your computer, the only thing you do is to go to the Internet, Facebook, Youtube, Messenger, Gmail/Hotmail just to name a few. So why bother loading the entire operating system and all other unnecessary components just to perform such a simple task? Why wait 5 mins before the PC is useable?
This is where Google Chrome OS comes in, Google Chrome OS (different from Google Chrome browser), still in the development stage plans to provide you a PC, which you can use to surf the web within 7 seconds from the time the power button is pushed. Google Chrome OS achieves this by loading only the necessary bare minimum resources.
Watch the preview here
To see Google Chrome OS in action, watch the second video here
Seems promising, but seems like Microsoft has slammed Google Chrome OS even before the beta version is made available. Apart from that, it could be that it's just a matter of time before Google converge Google Chrome OS with it's smartphone counterpart, Android into one new product, Android Chrome perhaps?
Looks like Google is one step closer towards the completion of Internet domination.
Looking forward to install this in parallel to Windows 7 installation, since most of the time I'm on the Internet anyway. The beta is already available and instructions to install it via thumbdrive is available here.

| TecAsia Lowyat, a place I highly looked upon when it first opened, being the first Dell reseller, a concept store with Dell XPS gaming PC for all to play on a LAN environment, also being the place where I first played a Nintendo Wii.
But on my recent visit to Lowyat, TecAsia is a whole different place, the Dell PC's were no longer there, the speakers section was dismantled, the keyboards were thrown aside, display units were not working, lights were not turned on, salesmen were not around, even the security guard was no where to be seen, the shop was totally empty, and it was a Friday's noon!

See, there was no one at all!

I waited at the payment counter to pay for my purchase, but no one was there, shouted for assistance, but no one was there, wanted to steal, but security guard was no there, hence no fun.
What a shame TecAsia.
